Revel may not be a speaker brand that is as well-known as Klipsch or Bowers & Wilkins, but to audiophiles and enthusiasts, it is very familiar. Search for Revel speaker reviews on Sterephpile.com, and you will find pages of results from some of the industry’s veteran reviewers. Revel was founded in 1995 as part of Harman International, which owns such well-known audio brands as JBL, Mark Levinson, AKG, Arcam and several others. Today Revel is part of Harman’s Luxury Audio Group, which includes some of the names mentioned above.
While Revel is a high-end brand and product, they have developed multiple product lines to fit different budgets over the years. The PerformaBe Series sits below the top of the line Ultima2, borrowing high-end technology from its big brother in the form of the superb Beryllium tweeter – the Be in the PerformaBe name. Like the other Revel lines, the PerformaBe is a complete collection, suitable for both two-channel and home theater multichannel setups.

Beryllium and More
The tweeter in the PerformaBe is one of its defining elements. The 1-inch Beryllium (Element 4 on the Periodic Table) tweeter is driven by massive 85mm dual ceramic magnets. Beryllium is a rare-earth metal with ideal properties for a transducer. Compared to other common tweeter materials like aluminum and titanium, it is stiffer, lighter, and offers better damping for superior control. Beryllium tweeters are fast, clean, natural, and non-fatiguing, and can reproduce the full high end of the frequency range.
What else does the PerformaBe line pack? In the flagship tower, the F328Be, three 8-inch aluminum-ceramic composite woofers deliver bass to 26Hz, and a 5.25-inch cone of the same construction handles the midrange duties in this 3-way design. The crossover network takes advantage of Harman’s scientific resources and knowledge to create a perfectly balanced speaker.
A Complete Line
The PerformaBe Series encompasses a full line of audiophile speakers for either the two-channel purist or the home theater enthusiast. Three 3-way towers are available, with the variables being the speaker's size and the size and number of the bass woofers. The M126Be is a two-way bookshelf model suitable for smaller spaces or as surround speakers in a home theater. For center channels, the C426Be is perfectly matched to the towers with quadruple 6.5-inch bass drivers and the same sweet Beryllium tweeter.Â
What multichannel system for movies doesn’t need more bass? To get the deepest low-frequency effects for epic movie soundtracks, Revel offers two matched subwoofers for the PerformaBe line, the 10-inch B110v2 and the 12-inch B1112v2. With a 1000-watt amplifier, these sealed subwoofers supply bass punch in the lowest frequencies.
Looks to Match the Performance
All Revel speakers feature superb fit and finish, and the PerformaBe Series is no exception. The speakers are available in four premium high-gloss finishes – white, silver, black, and walnut – to match the most elegant décor. They look equally attractive with their magnetic grills in place or without to show off the beautifully designed drivers and tweeters.
How does the PerformaBe sound? In reviewing the F228Be tower (the second from the top), Stereophile’s Kalman Rubinson notes: “Across the audio band and at any listening level, they offered remarkably transparent reproduction of music in the tonal, time, and spatial domains, and my ears, brain, and mind simply loved them.” He also purchased the review samples!
